Borno graduates 350 nomadic students in one year

The Borno State Agency for Nomadic Education said it had graduated about 350 students from different post-literacy and diploma courses in adult education in the last one year.
Abbah Alibe, Executive Secretary, who made this known on Friday in Maiduguri said that the beneficiaries enrolled in diploma courses like economics, political science, management and home economics.
The secretary said that the participants were nomads, widows and other people, who were affected by the insurgency in rural areas.
He pointed out that the agency is affiliated to the University of Maiduguri, adding that more than 300 of the nomads have gained admission to undergo degree programmes in Bachelor of Arts in adult education, political science and computer science.
Alibe said that the agency was planning to train more nomadic teachers in the state to boost their capacity, and that the gesture would help to enhance the quality of education imparted on nomadic pupils across the state.
According to him, the agency had established additional schools across the 27 local government areas in order to expand the scope of enrolment and retention of pupils in the schools located in nomadic settlements across the state.
The executive secretary urged the state government to work out modalities that would ease access to quality education among the state’s pastoralists and rural dwellers.
