Very Rev. Fr. (Prof.) Bonachristus Umeogu Launched
His Scholarship Foundation for the less privileged students in Anambra State.
The residents of
Anambra State, stood still on 29th November 2014 for Very
Rev. Fr. (Prof.) Bonachristus Umeogu who Launched the first ever Less
privileged student scholarship foundation (Christus-Found) for the
less-privileged students in the State.
The foundation which began informally, began as
act of showing mercy and the willingness to help the poor and destitute amongst
Student, where the notable Very Rev. Fr. Bonachristus Umeogu gives out school
fees to students who could not afford to pay. Prof. Bonachristus took it upon
himself to pay for all of them in a class, not minding the number till no
single person was left out. Prof. Bonachristus started this even before he was
ordained as a Catholic Priest in Rome.
Since the number of less privileged students, who
needed help continued to increase on daily bases,the Very Rev. Fr. (Prof)
Bonachristus Umeogu decided to formally open a foundation. This foundation only
assess the entries and credibility of students who needs help to make sure they
are genuine and not fake.
Today, the foundation has successfully organized –
“Unizik who wants to be a millionaire?” season one and two. This has recorded
the highest turn out of students from all the tertiary institutions in the
state with over hundreds of scholarships that was given to encourage the
student-participants.
During the lauching, and formal inauguration of
the foundation which took place at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Auditorium, Very
Rev. Fr. (Prof.) Bonachristus Umeogu thanked the pioneer board of directors for
properly directing the affairs and activities of the foundation with the fear
of God.
Very Rev. Fr. (Prof.) Bonachristus Umeogu enjoined
well-meaning Nigerians to join the crusade of helping, all children who are
working on the streets in order to get back to class where they belong.
The recent competition organized by the foundation
tagged “Unizik Project Fame” lasted for one week. It was an intensive training
on different musical presentation and instrumental mastery by Associate Prof.
Alvan Ikoku Nwamara, Miss Khaly (Musicologist) and Dr. Chikezie Uzuegbunam from
Cape Town University South Africa.
This classical music competition had over one
thousand students struggling to emerge as winners of the four years
scholarship, three years scholarship and two years scholarship from the
foundation.
At the end of the one week intensive competition,
Mr. Frank Nnebedum from Psychology Department Unizik emerged the winner of the
competition, while Alfred Umeku took the second position from the Faculty of
Education. Nneka Lizy Okafor from Engineering Faculty & Clinched the third
position.
