PHOTO: POLYTECHNIC STUDENTS STAGED A PROTEST ON THE STREET
Yesterday in Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin students staged a protest on the street due to the additional ten thousand naira (N10,000) fee imposed on them by the school management as a levy for late payment of school fees.
The protest took the students to the streets near the polytechnic campus, as they made bonfires and chanted war songs. They accused the management of insensitivity and lack of human sympathy, considering the economic hardship in the country.
The protesting students alleged that the Management gave them 7 days to pay the fees or face expulsion from the institution. This prompted an immediate outcry from the effected students, who mobilized other students and embarked on a protest.
Several properties were destroyed in the course of the protest before a group of armed policemen dispersed the protesters with tear gas.
