STOP COLLECTING ILLEGAL FEES – AMOSUN



Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the Ogun State Governor, warned principals and head masters in government owned schools in his state to stop collecting fees from pupils.
The Governor while addressing education stakeholders at a Town Hall meeting in Abeokuta on Tuesday said “no child should be sent home due to non-payment of Parent Teacher Association (PTA) fees, adding that such a payment should be voluntary.”
Amosun said it was criminal for any school head to charge pupils any fee for using the infrared thermometer to gauge their temperature.“Again, there are complaints that they are charging the pupils after for using infrared thermometer to test their temperatures. It is illegal to charge anyone for that.”
He said, “I have received complaints from some parents through text messages that their children are being sent home for not paying certain PTA fees. Please, I want warn that such an action should stop. PTA is voluntary. It is an internal arrangement. Nobody should collect any fee from the pupils.”
Meanwhile, the state would host the 60th meeting of the policy-making body on education, National Council on Education, next week.
